How to best analyze semi-quantitative data in clinical trials of knee OA

BICL has 20 years+ leading expertise in semi-quantitative tissue assessment of knee osteoarthritis by MRI with all major currently used assessments instruments having been published by BICL team members. Whole organ osteoarthritis comprises a multitude of tissues and different ordinal grading schemes per tissue. How to leverage best the multidimensional data has rarely been explored. In this perspective article Drs. Collins, Roemer and Guermazi explain how to analyze multidimensional MRI data in clinical trials of knee OA. While commonly sum scored have been used that add the different scores from different tissues, this approach has many flaws that re pointed out in detail. Number of subregion or maximum grade-approaches are often preferable. Please find the full article attached and at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ocarto.2024.100465.
